Impedimenta

Impedimenta means the sum total of burdens or other things that weigh or slow one down; any structure that makes progress difficult.
"There was no sign of piano, organ, hymn-books, church programmes – the familiar ecclesiastical impedimenta we saw every Sunday." Harper Lee uses this word to express how the black people are thought of as lesser beings, they don't have enough money to buy the items found in a white persons church because they are not given the same wages as white people even though they might do the same or sometimes more amount of work.
