‘I don’t want anybody sayin’ I don’t look after my children,’ she muttered. ‘Mister Jem, you absolutely can’t wear that tie with that suit. It’s green.’

This shows that although Scout and Jem are not Calpurnia's biological children, she treats them as if they are. She has lots of love and pride for these two kids so when she takes them to her church she wants them looking their best. Calpurnia is like a mother to Scout and Jem and she has been in their life for a very long time.
